Iskong Bantay • Atimonan, Quezon

The only one remaining of seven watchtowers built ca. 1752 in Quezon, greatly restored, remaining tower named in honor of the principal defender of the town in the raid of 1872.

The National Historical Institute marker on the site reads “ISKONG BANTAY The only observation and defense tower existing of the seven built around 1752 in Atimonan, Quezon (Tayabas), to guard the sea coast against pirates.  Repaired, 1948-1951 by the Municipality of Atimonan, naming it in memory of Francisco Tandas, popularly called Iskong Bantay, chief defender of the town in the raid of 1872.”
